Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

Vigna Poggio Cerrino

SELECT VINTAGE

A rediscovered wine. The distant and noble origins of Podere Soccorso inspired us to reproduce the graphic design of the label, re-proposing the winemaking technique while maintaining the characteristics of the local tradition, the same ones that more than a hundred and fifty years before were already recognized and awarded in Italy and abroad, with an open eye to the future. Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Soccorso is a cru from 100% Sangiovese grapes obtained exclusively from the vineyard in the farm unit of the same name. The soil is silty/sandy, loose but with inclusions of skeleton from volcanic rocks, arenites with the presence of tisks. Large magmatic and sedimentary rocks are present beneath the loose layer of soil. The planting density is 4500 plants per hectare.

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Vigna Soccorso: we produced 6700 750ml bottles and 150 1.5L Magnum bottles of this vintage.

Description

The first Brunello.
There is a special bond between Babbo Enzo and Poggio Cerrino because it was from this vineyard he produced his first Brunello in the1980. This is why Poggio Cerrino tells a story of personal growth and of a territory, of social emancipation, it speaks of a solid present and a better future. It is the Brunello of optimism, of will, of the courage of enterprise and the strength of a dream. From the 2017 vintage, it is the estate’s other cru, as like the Brunello Vigna Soccorso. It is made with grapes from a single vineyard in the “Canalicchio” area northeast of Montalcino. Here the soil is predominantly clayey with a lot of limestone and skeleton, residues of calcium agglomerates and presence of fossils but also sandy with marl schist and alberese stones. Plant density is 3,000-3500 vines per hectare.

Tasting notes

This Brunello is typical of the northern area of Montalcino: powerful body, freshness, acidity, but also elegance and balance. The nose presents “dark notes of sangiovese”: cinchona, licorice root, iron, earth, cinnamon stick, carob and in the background plum and blackberry. In the mouth it closes with bitter notes that pair perfectly with game, and meat rich in spices. A large goblet such as tulip-shaped or otherwise with ample drinker that allows the aromas to unfold, emphasizing its complexity, is recommended.
