Tiezzi family

Our Story

The winery takes the name of our family, Tiezzi, and its founder is my father, Enzo Tiezzi, a well-known agronomist-oenologist from Montalcino who has always been working in viticulture and oenology bussiness in the Siena and surroundings, and in particular in Montalcino, where he covered the most important positions per different old historic and famous wineries. His knowlege and his experience lead my dad Enzo to be in charge as manager and president of the “Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino”.
The 1980s

The birth of the company

In the 80s, my father Enzo decided to start his own business and founded our winery, therefore in the 1985 was relised on the market the first Brunello Tiezzi from Cerrino estate. In the 1999, Enzo purchased the historical Soccorso’s farm, a long forgotten and abandoned propriety that belonged to a relative of my mother Maria Vittoria, bringing it back to its ancient splendors.
1870

The first Brunello di Montalcino

The origins of the Soccorso farm are old and are linked to the life of prof. Riccardo Paccagnini, considered “a pioneer of Brunello”. From the vineyard of Podere Soccorso Riccardo Paccagnini produced in the 1870 the first wine whose label presented the name Brunello on it and which obtained important awards in Rome, Paris, Marseille and Bordeaux. Many awards medals and prizes won by the Brunello Soccorso in the 19th century are displayed at the winary as historical documents of fundamental importance .
1999

An important year

The year 1999 is an important year for us also for other reasons: me, Monica Tiezzi, actively starting to support my father by putting into practice his main teachings such as respect of the territory, nature and the vineyard and the importance of intervening as little as possible in the cellar, favoring the careful observation of the winemaking and refining processes of the wines: I left the medical profession and with the aim of enhance the work done so far with my dad, I deal with sustainability and organic certification, expansion of the farmhouse and hospitality in the cellar.
Projects

Tradition, history and the future

We also created together a new project to get back same of the oldest Montalcino’s traditions like reusing cement vats in the cellar and replanting the Moscadello vineyard. Therefore we are opening up to new foreign markets and strengthening the sale of Tiezzi wines in Italy. In the same year my daughter Rachele was also born and the circle closes: now the Tiezzi family is truly ready to combine tradition, history and future.
